Ok, let’s start at the beginning. I love music, I really do. And I love fresh music and to discover new artists.

As for many other things, the web is a perfect place for music discovery. There are lots of cool folks out there who put together blogs with reviews, infos and mp3’s.

The Hype Machine simply aggregates all that stuff. From their about page:

To put it simply, the Hype Machine keeps track of what music bloggers write about. We handpick a set of kickass music blogs and then present what they discuss for easy analysis, consumption and discovery.

So before the Hype Machine, I subscribed the relevant blogs with my preferred feed reader, saved the audio file to my disk, created a new playlist in iTunes and synced them with my iPhone, just to get them on the go.

With the Hype Machine I can follow specific blogs and can listen to all of them from the dashboard.

The deficit: It only works online on their site.

So I took the feeds they offer, applied a little Pipes-Magic and got a Podcast feed with embedded audio files:

The input can be any Hype Machine RSS feed. The generated URL (e.g. this one) has to be imported in iTunes via the “Subscribe to Podcast” button. From now on iTunes will download all you favourite mp3’s from the blogs directly to your disk and if you want to, you could sync them with your iPod/iPhone.

Nice, isn’t it?

Ich muss jetzt doch noch einmal auf diese Geschichte zurückkommen. (Kurzform: Ich hatte einen Volltext-RSS-Feed für den heise Newsticker gebaut und auch veröffentlicht. Daraufhin hat heise kurzerhand den Zugang auf die Seite blockiert.)

Warum also noch ein Kapitel hinzufügen?
Nun vor kurzem bin ich beim Stöbern in der Google App Engine Application Gallery über zwei Dienste gestolpert, die Webseiten simpel spiegeln. Ein dadurch generierter Beispiel-Mirror hat dann folgende URL http://re.flect.net/http://www.heise.de.
mirrorrr kann sogar mit deutschen Umlauten umgehen.
Kapiert worauf ich hinaus will? Nach 2 Minuten rumfrickeln mit einer Yahoo Pipe hatte ich mit Hilfe dieses Dienstes wieder Volltext-Feeds. Als wäre keine Sperrung vorhanden.

Ich werde diesen Feed nicht publizieren. Es war nie meine Absicht irgendjemanden damit auf die Füße zu treten.

Ich stelle mir aber ernsthaft die Frage ob es für den heise Verlag nicht sinnvoller wäre, eine ungekürzte Version mit Werbung anzubieten.

Das Phänomen kennen wir doch alle aus der Musik- oder Softwareindustrie. Die heutige Internetgeneration sieht es nicht mehr ein Barrieren hinzunehmen, die non-technische Gründe besitzen.
Und sei es nur für ein paar poplige Computer-News, die ich in der nächsten Print-Ausgabe noch einmal lese.
